Claire & James Irvine, Plot 114, The Beaufort

Claire and James Irvine were looking to find their dream new family home, while remaining close to the heart of Bridge of Don where their youngest child goes to school. Immediately falling in love with the village vibe of Cala Homes’ Mains of Grandhome development, they discovered the three-bedroom, semi-detached Beaufort house type, which they knew was perfect for them.

Why did you choose Mains of Grandhome as the location for your new home?
Our youngest child currently goes to school in Bridge of Don so we wanted to avoid having the extra hassle of moving schools, especially as my eldest previously went to that school as well. We had walked past the development at Grandhome so many times with our dog and it’s always been somewhere that we said we would love to move to. The development has a wonderful vibe and feels like its own little village. Never did we think we would ever be lucky enough to have the opportunity to live here!

One weekend, we decided to give in to our curiosity and pay the Cala Homes showhome a visit for a look around. Little did we know, we’d immediately end up putting down a deposit on what is now our dream, forever home. The plot just stood out to us and it’s simply gorgeous.

How was your experience moving into your new home?
Moving with Cala couldn’t have been easier. The expert Cala sales team at Mains of Grandhome were simply fantastic and were always on hand if we had any questions. Jo and Richard in particular definitely made it a much easier decision than we ever thought it would be and helped us pick the perfect plot. They definitely made the whole experience hassle free.

I also cannot recommend Cala’s Part Exchange service enough as it made the big move the easiest buying and selling experience we have ever had.

The week before moving in, we were shown around our new home and talked through how everything worked such as the boiler and kitchen appliances. This made our moving in day so much easier as we only really needed to pick our keys up.

What is your favourite feature or room in your new Cala home?
I think I can quite safely say our open plan kitchen and dining area. This is where we spend most of our time and it has been an absolute godsend during lockdown to have the space and comfort of such a large area. I have made this space very comfortable and cosy for us all to spend time in.

As soon as we saw the show home, the kitchen area was what immediately sold it to us and there was no other house that could have compared to it. It just has the wow factor we were looking for.

Everyone that has visited also comments on how big our house feels on the inside and how well planned each room is.

Another personal favourite feature for us is the laundry room on the first floor. It’s a brilliant idea and something I’d never have even thought to look for!

Do you have any interiors / style advice or tips for anyone moving into a new Cala home?

Choose an area around the home to work on and build on it. Don’t be afraid to add your own touches and keep it minimal. It’s only when you move in and get a feel for your home that you can start adding pieces here and there to make it your own.

Also get on Instagram! The ideas and small businesses on there are absolutely amazing. Not only have I found lots of Cala Home buyers with similar houses and ideas but also so many local businesses that do beautiful and different pieces for around your home.
