Cala Homes, which is building Imber Riverside in East Molesey and Atherton Hill in Farnham, launched the Cala Community Bursary in Surrey in February and invited organisations, charities and groups in the area to apply for a share of £13,000 to help fund projects that make a difference in the community.
1st Chertsey Scout Group and Staines Lammas Band were chosen as recipients of the bursary, with money going towards new equipment for their organisations.
1st Chertsey Scout Group is an organisation that provides an exciting programme of adventure, skills development and fun for over 130 local children aged 6-17 in Chertsey.
The Group is supported and run by 30 volunteers who deliver a number of youth development activities, along with helping to host regular fundraising events to support the cost of the group’s new headquarters, which is set to be an asset to the local community for years to come.
The donation of £760 made by Cala Homes will cover the cost of purchasing new equipment for the scout group to enjoy in their new home.
Also receiving funding from Cala Homes is Staines Lammas Band, a non-profit organisation which is part of The Staines Brass Band Organisation.
Formed in 1930, the purpose of the organisation is to foster and facilitate the musical aspirations of its members, develop its member’s ability in brass band playing, and offer learning facilities to beginners of all ages.
The band supports a number of events in the local community, with their next live performance taking place on Saturday 7th December at Staines Methodist Church.
The £500 contribution from Cala Homes is being spent on the purchase of new banners.
This year, the Community Bursary scheme has awarded a total of £109,000 to 117 good causes across the UK. A further 200 causes have previously benefitted from the scheme, with over £200,000 awarded to various initiatives since 2017.
Brian Perry, BEM Chairman of Fundraising Committee at 1st Chertsey Scout Group, said: “We have been building a new HQ over the past few years which will immediately help 1st Chertsey Scout Group to deliver higher quality activities. What’s more, the additional capacity will enable a greater number of local children to move off the waiting list and participate in scouting. We are so grateful for the kind donation that we have received from Cala Homes which has been used towards the purchase of four new benches as part of our new HQ.”
Tina Burgess, Chairman at Staines Lammas Band, comments: “As a non-profit organisation we rely heavily on fundraising and donations, and raising money for new equipment, uniforms and instruments can be challenging. The money from the donation has allowed us to purchase new banners for our music stands – we can’t thank Cala Homes enough.”
Alison Deakin, Sales and Marketing Director at Cala Homes (Thames), said: “Cala has always been committed to making a positive and lasting contribution to the local communities in which it builds and the Community Bursary scheme has given us the opportunity to find out exactly what support is required locally. We are delighted to be supporting 1st Chertsey Scout Group and Staines Lammas Band in the purchase of new equipment, and look forward to seeing how the funding helps to make a difference to the local community.”
