In the historic Essex village of Earls Colne, Cala has created an aspirational development of three, four and five bedroom family homes in a picturesque setting next to Earls Colne Golf Club.

Two professionally-designed showhomes beautifully showcase the lifestyle on offer and provide would-be homeowners with plenty of design inspiration. Cala worked with interior designers Clayton & Company on the four bedroom Pebmead, a light and contemporary family home with a hint of glamour, designed with a busy modern family in mind.

Here, Clayton & Company share their inspiration for the design scheme.

The location of Audley Chase nestled in the Colne Valley and surrounded by beautiful countryside inspired us to go for a classic but contemporary scheme, making the most of the generous living space and providing the touches of luxury for which Cala is renowned.

The colour palette throughout is warm neutrals with bursts of rich colour. For the open plan kitchen/family area we chose glossy satin grey units with a concrete grey worktop and a pale wood-effect floor laid lengthways to draw the eye through to the sitting area and the garden beyond. The comfortable dining chairs and bench are richly upholstered in neutral grey which works perfectly with the wooden parquet-effect table, and the bold black candle holders, whilst the monochrome botanical wallpaper is a perfect foil for the opposite pale green wall.

In the formal separate sitting room the soft greys are continued in the upholstery and flooring. Grey washed wooden tables and the textured rug give the room a country feel; and the modern sideboard with its touches of gold plus two large mirrors add glamour to the room. The look is warm and sophisticated.

The ground floor study is a playful space designed to accommodate the kids’ activities and studies. The scheme includes a work table with fun and practical storage benches, bold pops of colour, a planning board, statement clock and a stylish painted piano.

Upstairs, the neutral, contemporary colour palette continues. The main bedroom evokes a real sense of glamour, with a magnificent statement headboard in bold patterned fabric. The bed is covered in luxurious oversized cushions and a textured double sided quilt  There are metallic and glass accents in the furniture and accessories, and the twin leather stools the end of the bed add some va-va-voom!

The guest bedroom was designed in the chic modern style of a boutique hotel. Sophisticated and contemporary, it features a funky, extra-long wraparound leather headboard with metal studs, a fabulous orange patterned wallpaper and matching lamps. Bringing it all together are the charcoal coloured throws and shiny metallic, orange and dark grey cushions.

The children’s bedrooms were enormous fun to design.  In one room we created a wall of the world and designed a magnificent spitfire bed to excite the child’s imagination. Contrasting with this, the softer colour palette of the second child’s bedroom includes pinks, greys and yellows, with an animal-themed feature wall and sweet little wooden headboards. The wall here is decorated with clever hanging logs mounted with soft toy animals and the room includes space for a friend to sleep over.

Tips from Clayton & Company on bringing showhome style to your own home:

1. Plan how you are going to use each room – print off floor plans with dimensions so you can work out what fits in each room. This can be easily done with graph paper and a scale rule.

2. Choose your base colour which you can use throughout with lighter and darker tones. Creating a mood board with fabric and wallpaper samples and cut-outs from magazines is really helpful.

3. Get creative with artwork – try framing a gorgeous piece of wallpaper or hanging collections of simple objects such as hats.

4. Layering texture and pattern in rooms makes them come to life – there are loads of ideas for this on Pinterest.  Invest in really good furnishings that will last and good quality accessories such as ceramics.

The showhomes at Audley Chase can now be viewed by appointment and Cala has introduced new hygiene and social distancing measures to give you piece of mind when you visit.
