Cambridgeshire-based Buckden Day Nursery has received a helping hand from Cala Homes, having received £2,500 from the major UK housebuilder.

Buckden Day Nursery is a private day nursery that provides a homely environment for children ranging from the ages of three months to five years, and encourages the development of the children by following the EYFS framework.

Cala Homes, which is building Sarazen Gardens in Huntingdon, launched the Cala Community Bursary in Cambridgeshire in early 2019 and invited organisations, charities and groups in the area to apply for a share of £12,000 to help fund projects that make a difference in the community.

Buckden Day Nursery was chosen as a recipient of the bursary, with money going towards transforming their garden area into a forest school environment.

This year, the Community Bursary scheme has awarded a total of £109,000 to 117 good causes across the UK.

A further 200 causes have previously benefited from the scheme, with over £200,000 awarded to various initiatives since 2017.

Keeley Lockey, Nursery Manager at Buckden Nursery, said: “The ethos of our nursery is to establish a home-from-home environment in which children feel settled and happy. We provide a vital link in the Buckden community and many parents have brought every sibling of theirs to the nursery over the years, viewing the nursery as a valuable resource and social space.

“We are extremely thankful for this kind donation from Cala Homes. We have been able to transform our garden area and purchase a variety of resources including plants, trees and outdoor play equipment allowing the children to be entertained in all weathers by providing shelter.
The funds have had a significant impact on the children in our care, enhancing the provision where the children can explore our environment and have access to more natural resources.

Duncan Jackson, Managing Director at Cala Homes (North Home Counties), said: “Cala has always been committed to making a positive and lasting contribution to the local communities in which it builds and the Community Bursary scheme has given us the opportunity to find out exactly what support is required locally. We are delighted to be supporting Buckden Day Nursery in their garden project and look forward to seeing how the new equipment helps make a difference to the children who attend the nursery.”
