Health and safety

The health and safety of our teams, the public and our customers is of the highest importance and as such, robust processes and procedures are in place and the regular training of our teams is carried out to reduce the risk of incidents and injuries.

We work closely with both direct employees and our sub-contractor partners to promote a cooperative, partnership approach that is vital in ensuring we continue to improve our health and safety record.

Our health and safety management system includes our required standards, monitoring, staff training and management reporting. We have a highly experienced health and safety team who frequently carry out on-site inspections as well as coaching and mentoring visits to ensure our site-based employees have a thorough and practical understanding of our health and safety requirements.

Whilst processes and procedures are important, we believe Cala will be a safer place to work if safety is embedded in our culture. Achieving zero RIDDOR injuries is our immediate goal, whilst our ultimate challenge is to establish a culture where people work safely, looking out for one another, so that no one suffers injury or ill health as a result of our activities.

One Team, One Goal, Safe Home

In 2019 Cala launched our health and safety culture change programme, the general ethos of which is encapsulated in our new work code, ‘One Team, One Goal, Safe Home’. The programme focusses on a number of areas including safety leadership and covers all areas of our business including office-based employees, site staff and our contractors.
